Weight loss-BMI-soda pop

Hello Drivers: Sorry it has been so long since my last post but I have been trying to get ready for all these new compliance laws from the Feds. For those of you who are wondering what a BMI is; it is the body mass index. You can look up the charts on google so you can check yours. You need to be below 35 which is generous. Please buy a tape measure which cost about a buck and measure at your belly button. You should be below 40" for males and below 35" for females. DO NOT GO BY YOUR PANT SIZE! Pants are at our hips not our waist! To lose weight quickly just stop drinking soda pop, sweet tea, energy drinks, etc. Read the labels on what you are drinking. Always read servings per container first. If it says 2.5 multiply that by how many grams of sugar they say are in it. One gram of sugar is one pack of sugar. I realize that it is corn syrup and not packs of sugar but it is the same. Most sodas have 45-47 packs of sugar per can. Think about that for a moment. Are you going to open 45 packs of sugar and put it in a drink? The reason they do this is because sugar is addictive! If you are a heavy soda drinker I do not recommend stopping "cold turkey" just eliminate one can every 7 days. Put it in your smart phone to remind you every week on the same day to do this. Most of my drivers are losing 15-25 lbs. by doing this. They are shocked! Well back to the paperwork. Take time to take care of yourselves and be safe. |
Sleep Apnea Information CPAP Machines

First, CPAP is not what people need. Most people need AutoPAP. This is a machine that adjusts pressure as you sleep. It allows for both inhalation and exhalation. Breathing out against a constant pressure can make normal breathing difficult. Second, the there are three different pressure settings on an AutoPAP machine that the user is going to need to experiment with: 1) minimum pressure 2) maximum pressure and 3) the ramp-up pressure and time of the ramp-up. Most machines have adjustments for your elevation above sea level. Third, in a dry climate, humidity and air temp are also important. Fourth, the mask is just as important as the machine. Proper fit and comfort are critical to success. Fifth, making your setup work for you by arranging the tubing and supporting your head properly are very important to good compliance (see attached photos of my home setup). I use two pillows (feather) and a buckwheat filled pillow under my neck. This allows me to turn side to side without knocking off my mask. Tubing has a cloth sock to prevent cold air condensation and prevent snagging on the sheets and pillows. Tubing is also suspended so I can turn with getting tangled. Two machines that are very good AutoPAP devices, but their cost are quite different. I recommend either one. Resmed S9 Autoset or Devilbiss IntelliPAP Autoadjust Flex |
National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners
Posted on November 15, 2013 at 9:01 AM |
![]() |
Hello Drivers; New Rules! Starting in March of 2014 the rules have changed about who can and cannot do the medical exam for commercial drivers. Only physicians who have been trained, tested and certified can do the medical exam for you. If you go to anyone else they will reject the medical card. The list of approved physicians is on the government website dot.gov under National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. You can look it up by state. You will have to fax, mail or take a copy of the medical examiners card to the DMV. If you fail to do so they take your first born. Well maybe not your first born but they can and will take away your right to drive a commercial vehicle. As if there is not enough stress with driving a commercial vehicle they have to add more. Take good care of yourselves and do not believe everything you hear or read on the radio or the internet! |
Low cost testing for Sleep Apnea
Posted on December 7, 2012 at 12:31 PM |

Hello Drivers: I have finally found an organization that has low cost sleep apnea testing and it is approved by the DOT. You can do the test in your truck or at home so no need to go into a clinic and stay over night. The cost for the sleep apnea screening is $200.00. The other clinics charge $1,200.00 and up so this is great news. I am still looking for low cost, good quality C-Pap machines. I will let you all know when I find them. I found some for $1,300.00 but I am not sure if that is a good price. I would also like to mention that if you are taking prescription medications please bring the medications in with you or write down the meds and dosage, the doctors name, address and phone #. DON'T FORGET TO SEND, FAX OR TAKE IN PERSON A COPY OF YOUR MEDICAL CARD TO THE DMV. IF YOU DO NOT THEY CAN AND WILL SUSPEND YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE. After January 30th 2012, you may present it in person to at allState DMV offices and some County DMV offices. You may fax them to the CDL unit at 303-205-5709 Or you may mail it to the following address: Colorado Department of Revenue Attn: CDL Unit 1881 Pierce Street, Room 164 Lakewood CO 80214 Take good care of yourselves. Important New Rules From DOT
Posted on March 7, 2012 at 2:43 PM |
![]() |
Hello Drivers: Well once again there are new rules that no one seems to know about. To make it short and simple, if at all possible, if you do not renew and fax or mail a copy of your new medical card to the DMV EVERY TIME you renew your card, there is absolutely no grace period, they can and will cancel your ENTIRE drivers license. They may change this in the future so check with the Federal Motor Carrier website. Please try to renew a least 3 weeks before it is due. If we run into problems we need time to remedy these before we can issue the medical card. Drive safe and we will see you soon. |

COMMERCIAL DRIVERS AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Posted on February 28, 2011 at 7:13 PM |
![]() |
The best advice I can give you is to take your blood pressure once a month. High blood pressure seems to be the number one cause of a driver failing the DOT physical. It is called, "the silent killer", because very few people will have any symptoms. Buy your own blood pressure kit that fits your arm properly. Have the pharmacy tech help you choose the right size. Take your meds as your doctor told you and if they make you feel bad call your doctor and have them change the medication to a different one. Please do not just quit taking them. I want to answer a few of the questions that drivers ask me on a daily basis. Blood pressure must be kept BELOW 140/90. I recommend that you purchase a blood pressure cuff and use it often. I do not recommend the wrist or finger kit. Buy the one that goes around the upper arm. Place your arm level with the nipple line and relax, don't be on the phone with dispatch! If you want to lose weight fast, quit drinking soda pop. Do not drink diet soda as they think it might be causing strokes and pancreatic cancer. Read the labels and make sure you multiply the number of servings per container times the grams of sugar. You will be shocked. Take good care of yourself. |
